Our volunteers donate time in various roles across the London Branches: in conservation and collections support, events support, object handling, welcome and administrative support. They also serve as remote field workers. The volunteer programme is open to anyone aged 18 years and above, although there are now a number of weekend volunteering roles within our programme, there are currently no regular evening roles available.

Tim Hetherington Archive Project Support Volunteer
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic volunteer to help with processing a new multi-media archive collection of the work of a photographer that has recently been donated to the museum. The items the volunteer will be working on will include a wide variety of documentation, including: business correspondence, professional contracts, research material etc. Volunteers will support the Curator by assisting with the initial evaluation, organization and documentation of the paper based elements of the collection.
The role would suit anyone wishing pursue a career in archives and who is looking for some relevant work experience before applying for or beginning a postgraduate qualification.

Warship Conservation Radio Section
Royal Naval Amateur Radio Society, London Group
HMS Belfast and the RNARS LG are looking for amateur radio enthusiasts to join the volunteer team in the Bridge Wireless Office, BWO. We operate the ship’s radio station, GB2RN, and help explain Morse code and naval history to visitors. If you have a full amateur radio licence, are interested in getting GB2RN on the air and interact with the many visitors to this 80 year old WW2 cruiser, please get in contact via our web-site, contact us.
