Content description

REEL 1 Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Air Force in GB and United States: 1942-1943: employment in small arms factory, late 1930s; enlistment in Royal Air Force, 1943; flying training in United States of America and Scotland, GB and serving as personal pilot to Lewis Croak, Air Officer Commanding No 29 Group, RAF, 1943-1945. Aspects of period as pilot with 238 Sqdn Transport Command, RAF in GB, 1945-1948: flying routes across Europe; navigation using Gee navigational system; unco-operative attitude of Soviet authorities; flight times across Europe; description of flying the Douglas Dakota; occasion when undercarriage got stuck just before landing. REEL 2 Continues: further details of flying Douglas Dakota; method of towing a glider. Aspects of period at practice camp at RAF Schleswigland, Germany, early 1948: duties; currency reform; gradual creation of Berlin blockade by Soviets.
