REEL 1 Background in GB, 1917-1939: family; education; early interest in aviation due to proximity to Farnborough during 1930s; awareness of situation in Europe; helping organisation aiding Jewish refugees from Germany; flying training with Air Service Training at Hamble, 1935-1937; education at University of Grenoble, France; enlistment in Royal Air Force, 1939. Aspects of period as NCO with No 1 Repair and Salvage Unit, RAF in France, 1940: posting to unit; role of unit; German Air Force attacks on unit, 5/1940; evacuation of unit through Cherbourg. Story of being on court martial on day of commission. REEL 2 Continues: Memories of pre-war aviators including Amy Johnston. Aspects of period as officer with 14 Sqdn, RAF in Egypt, 1941: joining squadron; role debriefing aircrews. Aspects of period as security officer with Royal Air Force Police and Special Investigation Branch, Royal Air Force Police in North Africa, 1941-1942: duties as security officer in Western Desert; investigating theft in Benghazi, Libya, 12/1941; story of attempted Axis infiltration of British lines; joining Special Investigation Branch in Cairo, Egypt; relations with Egyptian authorities; investigating immigration from Greece into Egypt.
