Austrian Jewish student and actor at University of Vienna, Austria, 1933-1938; escaped from Austria to GB via Switzerland, 7/1938-6/1939; refugee in London, GB, 6/1939-5/1940; internee in Kempton Park Racecourse Internment Camp, Warth Mills Internment Camp, Bury in GB and Onchan Internment Camp, Douglas, Isle of Man, 5/1940-7/1940, aboard HMT Dunera on voyage from GB to Australia, 7/1940-9/1940 and in Tatura and Hay Internment Camps, Australia, 9/1940-7/1942

REEL 1 Background in Vienna, Austria, 1913-1933: family; education. Aspects of period as student and actor with University of Vienna in Austria, 1933-1938: experiencing discrimination as a Jew; political climate in Vienna; growth of fascism and anti-Semitism amongst student body; influence of Professor Josef Nadler on students and treatment of Jewish students; unemployment amongst Jewish actors; effect on political situation on his acting career and higher education; behaviour of Sturmabeitlung (SA) and Schutzstaffel (SS) after Anschluss and murder of school friend. Aspects of escape from Austria to GB via Switzerland, 27/7/1938-17/6/1939: leaving Vienna, 25/7/1938; journey to Switzerland via Germany. REEL 2 Continues: jumping off train in Switzerland; hospitalisation for injuries in Basle, Switzerland; story of pregnant Jewish woman who escaped to Switzerland; organisation of camp for Jewish refugees; escape of stepfather to Switzerland and fate of stepsister; his mistaken arrest by Swiss police; story of obtaining work permit for GB; arrival in GB, 17/6/1939.
