The canteen calls at many isolated posts: balloon barrage units and anti-aircraft gun sites. The arrival of the canteen is a bright spot in
the men's day.

The men on duty in these lonely places take a few minutes off to drink hot tea or smoke a cigarette and hear the news. Often this is the
only contact they have with the outside world during the long, lonely weeks between leave periods.
