Description
"The memorial is erected partly on the consecrated and unconsecrated portion of the Cemetery, and is somewhat of massive proportions and executed fine Weldon stone, comprising a large bottom landing with a smaller base and molded plinth top. This plinth carries the main base, which has a bold molded capping canopied the face, with the words "Pro Patria" carved in relief. Under this follows the names of the fallen" "The names are very plainly and nicely engraved on a Hopton-wood marble slab, and finished in unperishable lead. The slab is sunk in the face of the base and surrounded with a molding, making a distinctive feature to the memorial, and surmounting this is a very large Latin cross, the face of which is worked and moulded cross of lighter proportions standing out in relief. The whole design has a very noble effect, and weighs about 3 tons and is about 15 feet high. It is from the design of Mr. W. W. Coles, of Brackley and Buckingham"
