Description
Heworth Stone Cross of Blomfield (CWGC Cross of Sacrifice) type, 15 feet 6 inches high, with bronze sword on two-tier octagonal pedestal and three octagonal steps. Surrounded by black railings with a gate. The dedication is carried on the front face of the main pedestal, with the names from 1914-18 listed in a single column on each of the two adjacent faces. The names from 1939-45 are carried in a single column on the back face. Lettering is incised and coloured black using elaborate Roman capitals throughout. The remainder of the island site is grassed.
