  • The Scotsman - Monday 13 September 1920 -KIPPEN MEMORIAL UNVEILED. - In presence of a large gathering drawn from the surrounding districts, the Kippen war memorial was unveiled on Saturday by the Duke of Montrose, K. T., of Buchanan Castle, Drymen, the Lord-Lieutenant of Dumbartonshire. Mr D. Y. Cameron, R. A., LL. D., read the names of those who fell in tho war from Kippen parish, and asked the Duke of Montrose to perform the unveiling ceremony. The memorial was afterwards handed over by Mr John Monteith, chairman of the War Memorial Committee, to the Kippen post of the Comrades of the Great War. The lament was played by pipers of the A. and S. H. from Stirling Castle. The memorial is placed at the cross roads , and is a circular base of freestone with four slabs, three containing the names of the fallen, and one with the inscription, "Forty-four men from Kippen fell in the war."
