Description
This memorial consists of three elements (1) A horseshoe-shaped avenue of trees (2) A commemorative cast lead plaque set into a boulder at the entrance to the avenue (3) . An interpretation panel at the entrance to the avenue The panel is set on a wooden frame and is constructed of plastic or polycarbonate with the wording and images set behind the protective plastic covering . The panel shows images of persons at the dedication ceremony , poppies , the logo of Maldon District Council and the names of the deceased . This is repeated on each side of the panel

Lead Cast Plaque inset on boulder :THIS PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED /BY/THE RIGHT HONOURABLE JOHN WAKEHAM/ON/8TH NOVEMBER 1987/AND RECORDS THE PLANTING OF THIS AVENUE OF TREES COMMEMORATING /THE MEN AND WOMEN OF MALDON AND HEYBRIDGE/WHO FELL DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-1945/ Top of interpretation panel: Second World War Memorial Avenue/ Maldon District Council is grateful to the Friends of the Prom for their contribution to this interpretation signage/ and to the Co-operative Funeral Services for the donation of the commemorative stone. Centre part of interpretation panel: In November 1987/ 86 trees were planted/ here to commemorate local/ people who died in the Second/ World War, with a service of/ dedication conducted by the/ Maldon Council of Churches./ Additional trees were planted/ between 1988 and 1992 to/ complete the horseshoe avenue./ On 11th November 2002,/ a service of re-dedication/ was held./ A commemorative stone marks this event./ The Memorial Avenue provides/ a link between the Delph Ditch/ Conservation Area and the/ River Blackwater./ It offers a pleasant/ and shady area in which/ to walk and enjoy the surroundings. Left and right hand side of interpretation panel: (Names) Bottom of interpretation panel: "They shall grow not old as we that are left/ grow old./ Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn./ At the going down of the sun and in the morning/ We will remember them."
