Description
Two brass plaques set in wooden frames. The upper plaque is WW1 and the lower is inscribed with a verse from Rupert Brooke. Incised oak leaves form a border on the main plaque and leaves entwined with ribbons form an incised border on the lower plaque. There are three rounded shelves on a backboard and wooden brackets below the plaques intended for vases.

TOP PLAQUE: † / 1914 THE GREAT WAR. 1918/ To the Glory of God. / and in ever grateful memory of/ (NAMES)/ "Greater love hath no man than this, that/ a man lay down his life for his friends." BOTTOM PLAQUE: "BLOW OUT YOU BUGLES OVER THE RICH DEAD./ THERE'S NONE OF THESE SO LONELY AND POOR OF OLD/ BUT DYING HAS MADE US RARER GIFTS THAN GOLD/ THESE LAID THE WORLD AWAY, POURED OUT THE RED/ SWEET WINE OF YOUTH, GAVE UP THE YEARS TO BE/ OF WORK AND JOY AND THAT UNHOPED SERENE THAT/ MEN CALL AGE AND THOSE WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN/ THEIR SONS THEY GAVE THEIR IMMORTALITY"
