Description
ORNATE TABLET WITH INSCRIPTION IN THE CENTRE FLANKED BY TWO FIGURES OF SOLDIERS FIGURE OF SOLDIER ON THE LEFT STANDS WITH ARMS REVERESED AND HIS HEAD LEANING ON THE BUTT. FIGURE OF SOLDIER ON THE RIGHT STANDS WITH ONE ARM BEHIND HIS BACK. BEHIND THE FEET OF EACH IS A SPHINX. AT THE TOP OF THE TABLET ARE DRAPED FLAGS AND MEDALLIONS DEPICTING CASTLE IN JELLALABAD IN THE CENTRE, TOWN OF CHUZNEECABUL 1842 ON THE LEFT AND CABUL 1842 WITHIN A WREATH IN THE RIGHT

GHUZNEE/JELLALABAD/CABUL/ WHILST SERVING IN AFGHANISTAN/ BETWEEN THE YEARS 1838 AND 1842,/ EITHER THROUGH THE FATIGUES OF SERVICE/ OR IN ACTION WITH THE ENEMY,/ THERE PERISHED OF THE 13TH PRINCE ALBERT'S LIGHT INFANTRY,/ (NAMES)/ ALSO/ SHORTLY AFTER THEIR RETURN FROM THAT COUNTRY/ (NAMES)/ TO THE MEMORY OF THE ABOVE,/ THEIR SURVIVING BROTHERS IN ARMS/ OF THE SAME REGIMENT,/ HAVE CAUSED THIS TABLET TO BE ERECTED.
