Description
Bronze female figures bearing wreaths mounted on a marble base. The dedication and names are written in gold lettering and situated below with the arms of both the City of London and the Worshipful Company of Butchers. An additional block of granite has been inserted below to carry a new plaque, and a new base was cast in bronze to form the base part of the whole.

1914-1918/ REMEMBER WITH/ THANKSGIVING/ THE TRUE AND FAITHFUL MEN/ WHO IN THESE YEARS OF WAR/ WENT FORTH FROM THIS PLACE/ FOR/ GOD AND THE RIGHT/ THE NAMES OF THOSE/ WHO RETURNED NOT AGAIN/ ARE HERE INSCRIBED/ TO BE HONOURED/ EVERMORE/ THIS MEMORIAL WAS UNVEILED BY THE RT HON THE LORD MAYOR/ ALDERMAN J ROLL ON 22ND JULY 1921/ IN ADDITION TO THIS MEMORIAL 3 BEDS WERE ENDOWED IN/ ST BARTHOLOMEWS HOSPITAL/ G. HAWKINS AND SON, SCULPTORS Lower plaque: For He shall give his angels charge over thee/ In memory of all men, women and children of Smithfield who lost their lives in conflict since the Great War/ Dedicated by HRH The Princess Royal, 15th June 2005/ on behalf of the Lord Mayor of London Alderman Michael Savory and the Corporation of London, the Smithfield Market Tennants' Association and the Worshipful Company of Butchers.
