- SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF LT. COL. FREDERICK HICKES, ELDEST SON OF THOMAS HICKES ESQ. OF BERKELEY, COMMANDING 2ND REGT. OF GRENADIERS IN THE SERVICE OF THE HONBLE. THE EAST INDIA COMPANY IN THE BOMBAY PRESIDENCY. HE FELL WOUNDED BY A CANNON SHOT WHILE LEADING ON THE BRIGADE HE COMMANDED TO THE ATTACK ON THE HILL FORT OF PUNELLA IN THE DISTRICT OF KOLAPORE ON THE 27TH DAY OF NOVEMBER 1844, AGED 57......
