RELIEF SCULPTURE OF A WINGED FIGURE HOLDING AN OPEN BOOK AND RESTING ONE FOOT ON A CANNON. COLUMN CARVED BEHIND THE FIGURE AND WEAPONRY CARVED AT THE BASE. BELOW THIS IS THE INSCRIPTION TABLET WITH INSCRIPTION IN BLACK PAINTED LETTERING CANNON, CANNON BALLS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT CARVED AT THE FEET OF THE WINGED FIGURE. TWO FURLED FLAGS CARVED IN THE BACKGROUND. FAMILY CREST FLANKED BY FRONDS CARVED BELOW THE INSCRIPTION TABLET

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF/ MAJOR GENERAL BARNARD FOORD BOWEN/ A BELOVED LAMENTED HUSBAND WHOSE VIRTUES ARE RECORDED/ IN THE HEARTS OF HIS SORROWING RELATIVES AND FRIENDS./ HIS DEEDS OF VALOUR IN THE ARMY ARE PERPETUATED ON/ A MONUMENT ERECTED IN THE CATHEDRAL CHUCH OF ST PAULS/ BY HIS MOST GRATEFUL COUNTRY AS A TRIBUTE OF RESPECT/ DUE TO THE MERITORIOUS ACTIONS PLACING HIM AMONG THE/ FOREMOST IN THE LIST OF THOSE GALLANT HEROES WHO HAVE/ BLED IN THE DEFENCE OF THEIR KING AND CONSTITUTION/ HE FELL ON THE 23RD OF JUNE 1812 IN THE 43RD YEAR OF HIS AGE/ AFTER ALMOST A LIFE DEVOTED TO THE SERVICE/ AND WHILE LEADING THE FORLORN HOPE TO THE ASSAULT/ OF THE FORTRESS LA MARCI SALAMANCA/ NO SLEEP THE BRAVE NOW SUNK TO REST/ BY ALL THIER COUNTRY'S WISHES BLEST.
