Description

WALL-MOUNTED TABLET. INSCRIPTION IN CENTRE WITH RELIEF OF TWO SOLDIERS IN FULL UNIFORM HOLDING RIFLES AT EASE, ONE EITHER SIDE OF CENTRAL INSCRIPTION. SOLDIERS SET ON SHELF. TOP OF TABLET FINISHED IN PEDIMENT-STYLE. WOODEN SHELF DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH MEMORIAL.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF HEWISH/ IN MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)/ WHO DIED FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN WOULD LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.
