- Description
- Ornate nowy-headed cast bronze plaque with the inscription in relief. The Company crest is set within a laurel wreath at the centre of the arch, with the dedication below, flanked by the years of the conflict, surrounded by the flowers of the four home nations. The names are in three columns, flanked by two figures in half-relief - a sailor on the left and a soldier on the right, both facing towards the names. A further dedication sits below the names, flanked by panels bearing the words Victory and Liberty. Originally erected on the wall of the Company's Prescot Works and subsequently moved to other premises locally before going into storage, the plaque was re-sited by Knowsley Council in 2011, along with the WW2 plaque (WMR 15836), and now sits on one side of a stone block wall within a purpose-built garden area between Prescot Cemetery and St Mary's Churchyard. The wall is set on stone flags surrounded by planters within a steel fence, at the centre of a slightly raised circular lawn, ringed by a set of steel benches with cut-out designs and dedications, one of which, dedicated to the Prescot Pals, is the subject of a separate record (WMR 100792). A large ceramic disc, the crest of the Company taken from the demolished Works, sits in front of the fence. An interpretative plaque giving the history of the Company's Memorials is positioned in front of the wall.
