Description
In the Crypt, Nelson Chamber, a brass wall panel with memorial inscription in the central panel, the border panels engraved with a variety of images. The memorial inscription is infilled in black with a red bead and reel border. the frame panels have red and green infill and represent: (at the sides) a continuous decoration of urns and plants; (at the top) an anthemion frieze and central cross suurrounded by a wreath and inscribed ribbons; (at the base) a lozenge with 'ihs' inscribed surrounded by inscribed ribbons and plants; at the corners are panels showing (upper left) a book on a stand and a candlestick; (upper right) military objects; (lower left) a sinking sailing boat; (lowere right) a weeping Britannia. The brass plaque is fixed by a grey and red striated marble back panel to the wall

OF H.M.S. EURYALUS, A YOUNG OFFICER OF HIGH PROMISE./ WHO WHEN TRAVELLING ON PUBLIC DUTY/ INTO THE SINAI DESERT WERE TREACHEROUSLY/ AND CRUELLY SLAIN IN THE WADY SADR/ AUGUST 11TH (?)
