Interesting and well-researched ts memoir (28pp), written in 1995, of his childhood in Bexleyheath, Kent, during the Second World War, describing his impressions of the war as a young child, the air raids on London and its suburbs (including details of those directed on Bexleyheath), information and publicity provided by the Press, the arrival of the V1s, his evacuation with his brother and sister to Pudsey, West Yorkshire (July 1944 - April 1945), the anti-climax of returning home to Bexleyheath, and VE Day; together with five brief accounts (38pp ts) of various episodes from his postwar career with the Foreign Office, covering the period 1952 - 1966 and including his initial recruitment and first experiences of Whitehall `from the inside', brief National Service experiences as clerk to the Royal Artillery's Director of Music in 1953, as a security guard at the British Legation in Bucharest, 1957, and at the British Embassies in Laos and Saigon (South Vietnam), 1959 and 1966.
