Project Description

Since 2014, the 'Hastings Remembers' project looked at the impact the First World War had on Hastings and its communities. We uncovered some fascinating stories and objects, compiled and made available to explore on an interactive touchscreen. The final aspect of the project examined remembrance and memorial through objects from the museum's collection. It showed how the sacrifices of the conflict have been marked, both for individuals and for society as a whole. Across a four year period from 2014 to 2018, the museum held a number of exhibitions and events which explored different themes relating to the War including tours as part of Heritage Open Days, talks and lectures, school workshops and exhibitions, film screenings, performances and other activities. This project received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and was a member of the Imperial War Museums First World War Centenary Partnership.
