Project Description

'Frampton Remembers World War One' investigated the effects of the First World War on the village of Frampton on Severn, Gloucestershire. The project focused on the temporary and permanent changes that the war brought to the community, whilst also telling the story of the conflict through the lives of local servicemen and nurses. We were grateful for the support of business sponsors and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Initially we held 'memories days' which yielded a lot of information about people and families who had lived in Frampton a century before. Our main events coincided with the centenary of the opening of Cadbury's factory in the village. In 2016 we held activities over three days which involved many local organisations, our infant/primary school, the public and our project volunteers. It was therefore a village effort to host two exhibitions, story-telling, guided walks, war-era teas, re-enactments and a football match. We also launched our book, 'Frampton Remembers World War One', edited by Rose Hewlett. This publication provides a long-term record of the research undertaken by volunteers, along with our project website.
