  • Chelmsford Chronicle Friday 18/5/1917 reported: 'Sec.-Lt. Owen Bennett Goold Johnson, Suffolk Regt., third son of the Rev. R. Alex, and Mrs. Johnson, of Saffron Walden, was killed on April 9. He was a graduate of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and joined the O.T.C. in 1914. He obtained his commission in July 1915, and went out in July, 1916. A keen musician, he was organist of his college chapel, and would have been ordained last summer but for the war. His company commander writes: "His men really worshipped him. have never met a man who commanded more love and respect than he did." His youngest brother, Lt. Donald Frederic Goold Johnson, a graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Chancellor's gold medallist for English verse, was killed last July'. www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000322/19170518/039/0005
