FROM APRIL 14TH 1915/ TILL JUNE 30TH 1920 IT WAS BY GRACIOUS/ PERMISSION OF HER MAJESTY DESIGNATED/ "QUEEN MARY'S MILITARY HOSPITAL"/ DURING WHICH PERIOD 56,800 DISABLED/ SOLDIERS WERE TREATED IN IT FOR/ WOUNDS AND SICKNESS

2012: Plaque and stone backboard are free-standing. During the First World War, the 2,000 bed Queen Mary's Military Hospital was housed in the County Asylum at Whalley, remaining there until June 1920.
