Marble tablet with carved laurel wreath and trophy of flags and bugles at top and coat of arms at bottom

TO THE MEMORY OF/ LIEUT. WILLIAM GILLON,/ OF THE 72D REGT. BENGAL NATIVE INFANTRY,/ WHO DIED AT MOOLTAN,/ ON THE 20TH JAN. 1849, AGED 23 YEARS,/ FROM THE EFFECTS OF SEVERE WOUNDS/ RECEIVED DURING THE ATTACK ON/ THAT FORTRESS ON 27TH DEC. 1848./ THIS TABLET/ IS ERECTED BY THE OFFICERS OF THE 72D REGT. B.N.I./ IN TOKEN OF THEIR AFFECTION AND ESTEEM, AND/ AND ADMIRATION OF HIS GALLANT CONDUCT IN THE FIELD.
