- Description
- Black Irish marble tablet, having a curved top and bottom, with a narrow beaded border. A carved profile of Edith Cavell, within a laurel wreath, is above the incised lettering of the inscription. Above the plaque hangs the lamp used by the Resistance group to which Edith Cavell was affiliated. The lamp was used to guide more than 250 Allied personnel from occupied Belgium through the forest to safety.

Peterborough Cathedral Order of Service, dated 12 October 2009: the celebration for the life of Her Serene Highness Princess Elisabeth de Croy et de Solre. (The Order of Service referred to her donation in 2007 of the Resistance lamp that now hangs above the Edith Cavell memorial in Peterborough Cathedral. Her Serene Highness had been given the lamp by her aunt, Princess Marie de Croy, who had been arrested with Edith Cavell in 1915).
