text: L'Amérique Lutte pour L'indépendance des DEUX MONDES
1775
1917
[America is fighting for the independence of both worlds. What the United States of America is. The United States of America which has 100
million inhabitants and is fifteen times larger than France stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and occupies almost the
whole of North America. There is no people whose industrial and commercial power has developed more quickly. This country which 150 years
ago had no history has played one of the most important roles in the world for half a century. It has a passionate love of freedom and
justice, and wants to cause peace to reign throughout the world. Therefore we can be sure that the United States, where everything is vast
– the rivers, the plains, the towns - and where everything is done on a large scale, will bring to the conduct of the war a broadness of
view and a wealth of resources that it is not yet possible to imagine. America has buckled down to the military life which was unknown to
it in order to liberate both the Old World and the New from Germanic tyranny. In fighting for itself and for us, it knows that it is
fighting for the independence of civilisation. Printed by Berger-Levrault at Nancy after the 15th bombardment of the city.]
