45 black and white photographic prints relating to the service of R A Markwick as an officer with the Royal Air Force during the Interwar period and his role as RAF representative at a ceremony to honour members of the Danish Resistance at Haderslev on 20 June 1946. The Interwar photographs mostly cover Markwick's time as a sergeant pilot with No.8 Squadron (RAF) in Aden and Yemen. These include a group photograph of pilots of the Squadron (Sergeant Markwick is 2nd from left, 2nd row). There are also a number of vertical and oblique aerial photographs covering Awabil, Crater settlement and the RAF Compound in Aden, Dhala Fort (bombing raid on 13 July 1928), Dhali (includes bombing raids on 12 March and 7 July 1928), Dhamar, Kataba (includes bombing raids on 10 and 21 February 1928), Taiz. Also included are ground level photographs showing the fort and mosque at Dhala; the Amir of Dhala's troops on parade and either the Sultan of Shukua or the Sheikh of Zingibah. A portrait photograph of a Fairey 3F aircraft (serial J9068) and one view of the wreckage of Avro 504K crashed by Sergeant Markwick on 28 March 1927 with Leading Aircraftman Duggan onboard as a passenger.
The events at Haderslev on 20 June 1946 are covered by a set of photographs showing the arrival in the town of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine, along with a single photograph of the temporary memorial to the Danish Resistance erected at Skamlingsbanke. Completing the collection is a single photographic print showing part of the Victory Parade in Oslo during July 1945.
Physical description
36 black and white photographic prints of various sizes, some with details handwritten in ink on the reverse and others bearing an official RAF Crown Copyright stamp with date. Also 9 black and white prints mounted on card (dimensions: H: 240mm x W: 220mm) with captions in Danish and English and Danish flags on each page. The photographs are fixed to the cards using photo corners.
