It is this day ordered by their Lordships that His Grace the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury do prepare a special form of intercession with Almighty God, on behalf of His Majesty's naval and military forces, to be used in all churches and chapels in England and Wales, and in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed ... [proclamation issued at the Council Chambers, Whitehall, dated 4th August 1914]
