A description of the operations and the versatility of Radio Malaya.
Every day "the voice of Malaya" broadcasts educational, information and entertainment programmes in four languages. Inhabitants are shown at home and in cafés listening to English broadcasts. The newsroom, staffed by English and Malayans, prepares the twenty-four daily bulletins in Malay, Indian, Chinese and English for the multiracial community it serves. Schoolchildren listen to an educational programme and sports coverage is mentioned. Country dwellers are provided with broadcasts tailored to their especial needs. It is stressed throughout that the needs of the multiracial society are met successfully, while the commentator concludes with the view that "a good radio service enriches a country and binds it together", thus helping to "build a nation".
