The YMCA picture department proposed to print a series of postcards for distribution among servicemen. William Rothenstein suggested they might feature art created at the Front and they wrote to Lavery and Beaverbrook.
Consequently a scheme for several series of postcards was developed, featuring works by Kennington, Rothenstein, Nash, Rushbury, Orpen and John Everett. Rushbury was also commissioned to paint a YMCA subject, probably IWM:ART 1126.
The file includes examples of the envelopes printed for each set, but only one postcard, Kennington's 'Raider with Cosh' at (102).
