Aubrey Waterfield wrote to the Museum recommending Lipscombe's work and enclosing photographs of two of Lipscombe's paintings of Red Cross activities on the Italian front, IWM:ART 1217 and 1218. The file includes these b/w photographs, stamped and passed for publication by GHQ in Italy.
The Museum purchased these works and also commissioned two further works (IWM:ART 1855 and 1856).
A further work was offered to the Museum in 1936 by Charles Hitchins - depicting the Loyal North Lancs Regiment and Poelcappelle but was declined and subsequently given to the Regiment.
The file also includes some biographical information and a b/w photograph of the artist at work, 1938.
