A ts account (4pp) with ms annotations/translations, and often using technical language, by an Intelligence, later Signals, Officer about the interception of German Ultra High Frequency (UHF) combined telephone and telegraph network during the Second World War, with brief details of his Army career, being a development engineer with Murphy Radio, joining Field Security Police, Corps of Military Police, with the BEF in France, and then Intelligence Corps in charge of Signallers with various Special Wireless units, and transferring to Royal Corps of Signals as a Technical Officer of 2nd Special Wireless Group, later OC HQ Company, before transferring as Officer Commanding to 1st Special Wireless Detachment Type G, based in Italy, to intercept the German Low and Very Low Frequency bands (June 1944), frustrations of working with Geheimschreibers, moving to Castelfidardo and using captured German and modified American equipment to detect instead UHF wireless transmissions, methods of interception and backups if equipment wasn't working, getting the first clear words transmitted from Pola in September 1944, having to be careful not to go near the front line as he was 'Ultra' cleared, moving to Rocca Caminate, Mussolini's summer villa, examples of operations based on intelligence his unit had gathered, including the destruction of miniature submarines at Pola harbour and the interception of German fast cargo ships, the last words intercepted before the Germans on the Pola link destroyed their equipment the day following VE Day, and hearing that all his unit's records, notes, and recordings were ordered destroyed after the war.
