Journal / retrospective account (34pp ms), supplemented by a 1942 Pocket Diary, with a typed transcription of both (24pp), pertaining to his experiences as a Royal Navy Signalman while serving in the corvette HMS LA MALOUINE during her deployment as part of the close escort of the ill-fated Russia convoy PQ17 in June - July 1942 until the time of her return to the UK in September of that year, comprising a good account of his impressions of Iceland where the ship joined the convoy at the end of June, events during the early part of the journey, vivid descriptions of the German aerial attacks on the convoy on 4th July and its subsequent scattering, picking up survivors from some of the merchant vessels that were sunk, and continued frequent aerial attacks before reaching the safety of the White Sea, proceeding to Archangel and recording his impressions of the town, its surroundings and aspects of local Russian life during shore leave, searching for the remnants of the convoy that had succeeded in reaching their destination, anti-submarine sweeps and other activities prior to the return sailing to the UK in September 1942; album containing 26 snapshot photographs taken during LA MALOUINE's sojourn in Iceland and North Russia, June – August 1942, and at other locations; manuscript poem 'On the Bridge' (2pp).
