Ts transcription (102pp) of a diary covering his service in the 22nd Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps (62nd Division) on the Western Front and in Italy, 1917 – 1919, describing leaving Blackpool for Southampton (21 March 1917), embarkation on the transport ship LONDONDERRY (22 March 1917), conditions during the voyage and arrival in Rouen (24 March 1917), the journey to camps at Courelles-le-Comete (8 April 1917) and Mory (11 May 1917) where he recalls aiding the wounded whilst under fire, Achiet-le-Grand (17 May 1917), Ecoust and on duty at Bullecourt (23 June 1917), Pas-en-Artois (28 August 1917), Poperinghe (30 August 1917), Ypres (30 September 1917), then to Italy at Albaredo (12 December 1917) where he recalls working in a hospital, Ponte de Nanto (8 March 1918), Caltrano (30 March 1918), Zugliano (11 June 1918) and Montechio Maggiore (13 November 1918); he describes the camp conditions, his duties, sickness, drill practices, the sometimes disorderly behaviour of the men, recreational activities, reactions to the Armistice (11 November 1918), his return journey home (30 December 1918) and demobilisation (5 January 1919).
