A copy of a ts memoir (9pp) written in the form of a letter to his grandson (c.1995), giving brief details about his volunteering for the TA of the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) as a Clerk (April 1939), reporting to Lancashire Cricket Ground (1 September 1939), receiving almost no training before being sent to Cherbourg, France, as part of the BEF (9 September 1939), his promotion to Corporal, the evacuation from St Malo (May 1940), Command Supply Depot at Seskinore, Ireland (October 1940 – January 943) and then other depots in Ireland and Wales (January 1943 – October 1943), beach training in Scotland (October – December 1943), attached to No 9 Beach Group, training on the South Coast, moving to a sealed camp near Southampton, preparations for the Normandy Landings, boarding LST 361in the Solent, the crossing on D-Day, landing on Gold Beach after several attempts, organising Compo Packs of rations, moving to Seclin, near Lille, his job of taking possession of captured enemy supplies, becoming friendly with a French family, moving to Rotterdam Docks to assist with Civil Affairs operations following VE Day, his return journey home (February 1946) and his demob. Together with a ms letter (1p, 2004) to a friend which accompanied this copy of the memoir and giving details about its creation.
