Collection of 13 ms/ts letters (32pp total) detailing his service with the 1st Battalion Irish Guards (4th Guards Brigade, 2nd Division) and his death in action on 1 November 1914, including an ms (4pp) letter from his best friend to his wife describing the events on the battlefield on the day of his death, and including a photograph of his grave in Ypres Town Cemetery; an incomplete ms account (6pp) of his wife's visit to a spiritual medium, during which she was allegedly visited by her husband, who described the spirit world to her and expressed a wish that she would marry again; ts transcribed letters (21pp) written by Mullholland to his wife, as well as correspondence between other family members serving on the Western Front, mostly concerned with his service and well-being, but also giving some brief descriptions of the Battle of Mons (September 1914), and general relations between German and English soldiers (October 1914); and a ts transcription (3pp) of his brother's diary for a week in October 1914, noting the capture of a German pilot and the arrest of a soldier for drunkenness and assault near St Omer.
