Ms diary (389pp) (January – December 1915), describing his arrival in Malta with the 2/3rd Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) (2/1st London Brigade, 58th Division) and giving details about daily life at Imtarfa Barracks, including weather, frequent sandstorms, interactions with fellow soldiers and religious services held at the camp (January 1915 – February 1915), his daily duties while stationed at St Paul's Bay (February 1915), the journey to Alexandria, Egypt and departure for Khartoum on the HMS GOLIATH (April 1915), his work as part of a fatigue party, during which he notes many cases of dysentery and diphtheria in the camp, as well as a storm of locusts (April 1915 – September 1915), his departure for the Dardanelles and arrival at Suvla Bay (now attached to the 86th Brigade, 29th Battalion) and experiences at Gallipoli (September – November 1915), including frequent shelling, the difficulty of bringing up rations under sniper fire, the flooding of the trenches that drowned several men (November 1915), his evacuation from Gallipoli with frostbite of the feet (December 1915), his stay at a hospital at Lemnos and transport back to England, where he was sent to Netley Military Hospital (December 1915). Also included is a photo album, as well as several loose photographs (35 total) showing Imtarfa Barracks, various locations around Khartoum and Netley Military Hospital, a sketch by Harris and his identity tag.
