Documents concerning his service in the Royal Artillery and as a prisoner of war in Germany during the Second World War, comprising: manuscript 'diary' (2pp) describing briefly his active service in command of 229 Anti-Tank Battery RA in the Calais area of northern France in late May 1940, where he was wounded and taken prisoner by the Germans; associated notes (4pp ms); manuscript notes (1p) on two Bombardiers in his unit who were to be mentioned in despatches for their actions at that time; Woodley's POW Identity Card ('Kennkarte fuer Kriegsgefangene') issued in Oflag IXA at Rotenburg/Fulda in September 1943 (other documents in the collection bear the censor's stamp of Oflag VIIB, Eichstatt); 4 small sheets of paper bearing various examples of forged official German stamps produced by Woodley in captivity; 2 sheets containing technical drawings and specifications of a scale wooden model of a yacht (the 'Lanai') made by Woodley during his captivity at Rotenburg; brief notes (4pp ms) by Woodley, presumably for postwar talks on his experiences as a POW with particular reference to escapes and forgery; wartime postcard view of the Jacob Grimm School in Rotenburg; 7 photographs of the wooden yacht model and drawings [the original model, and Woodley's forgery kit, is held in the IWM Department of Exhibits & Firearms].
