91 ms letters (459pp) and 35 postcards written by him to his fiancee in Whitby, Yorkshire (19 November 1915 - 29 January 1919) covering his service as an NCO with the East Riding of Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry in Egypt and later as an officer with General Staff Intelligence, GHQ, Egypt Expeditionary Force (from October 1918), with notes on his impressions of Egypt, entertainment for the troops, their eagerness to join the fighting in France, his periods spent in hospital in Cairo recovering from a knee injury (1918) and concern at being separated from his regiment (now the Lincolnshire and East Riding Machine Gun Battalion), his new duties as camp commandant at the POW Interrogation Camp, Ludd, and his thoughts on the progress of the war, the British General Election, Zeppelin raids on England, the Easter uprising in Ireland (1916), and the changes to British society which will meet him on his return home; together with photographs of him in uniform in the UK and Egypt, and scenes taken by him during his travels, and 2 certificates relating to his military service.
