7 ms letters (18pp), 28 April 1915 29 February 1916, written to his family whilst serving as an NCO with the 26th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, 7th Infantry Brigade, describing his initial rejection for the Army but then being accepted by another Battalion, the poor conditions in the training camp, passing his Corporals exam and applying for a commission, sailing for Gallipoli and being involved in the evacuation by Allied forces and being posted to France; together with 4 ms letters (11pp), 31 December 1915 20 October 1916, written to his mother by others including condolences after he was killed in action on 29 July 1916; 5 ms letters (19pp), 22 August 17 September 1916, written by his mother to her daughters; a photograph of him in uniform; his soldiers pay book; his obituary and remembrance card; 2 leather wallets; birthday and Christmas cards; and a signed games card.
