Bound volume (186pp) containing his illustrated memoirs, which cover his apprenticeship at RAF Halton, January 1939 - October 1940, and service eventually as an NCO at 30 Maintenance Unit, RAF Sealand, near Chester (October 1940 - January 1942); No 1 Anti Aircraft Cooperation Unit, RAF Farnborough and RAF Newtownards, Northern Ireland (January - July 1942); at No 4 School of Technical Training, RAF St Athan, South Wales for training as a Flight Engineer (July - October 1942); at 1658 Conversion Unit, RAF Riccall near Selby, Yorkshire and No 78 Squadron, Linton on Ouse near York (October 1942 - February 1943); in Cyrenaica with No 148 (Special Duties) Squadron flying missions for the Special Operations Executive in the Balkans (March - November 1943); in the United Kingdom (after medical regrading) at RAF St Athan (January 1944 - March 1946) and finally at RAF Debden, Saffron Walden (from March 1946) until his discharge on health grounds (October 1949); with useful details of service life as a boy apprentice and, later, information on the operational difficulties of flying missions for SOE (with copies of No 148 Squadron's Operational Record Book for April - November 1943) as well as mention of the mental strain endured by him and fellow crew members overseas and details of his postwar career in the RAF and early married life together with copies of his papers (including in a separate volume his flying log book, 26pp) and of documents relating to his erstwhile CO of No 148 Squadron, Wing Commander James Blackburn DSO DFC.
