Bound ts memoir (245pp) covering his service with the Special Operations Executive (SOE), circa 1940 - 1945, initially in the United Kingdom and subsequently running the Italian subsection from the British Legation, Berne, Switzerland, with useful references to the SOE training school at Brickendonbury (Station XVII), where he met Kim Philby and Guy Burgess, to personnel with whom he worked in Berne, including Air Commodore Freedy West VC and descriptions of SOE operations in Italy, France, Belgium, Austria and Germany as well as mention of aid given to evading Allied airmen and escaped prisoners of war, such as Captain Pat Reid, and interesting details of peace negotiations with Marshal Badoglio (1943) and the German Army Commander General Wolff (1945); also a bound volume of decoded messages, apparently received by SOE in Berne, April 1942 - September 1945, which provides a fascinating record of SOE activities in countries bordering Switzerland, including details of agents, double agents, code names, sabotage targets, German infiltration of French resistance networks and Italian politics, with many examples also of the coded phrases broadcast by the BBC to alert members of the resistance to forthcoming supply drops.
