Circa 220 ms letters (plus microfilm) written while he was serving with the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade (2nd Armoured Brigade, 1st Armoured Division) in England (April - October 1941) and North Africa (December 1941 - October 1942) and while a staff officer at TAC HQ 30 Corps in North Africa and Sicily (October 1942 - August 1943), TAC HQ Eighth Army in Italy (January - September 1944) and at HQ Allied Land Forces South East Asia Command in India (November 1944 - September 1945) with descriptions of his life as a young subaltern in England in 1941, his journey to Egypt via Cape Town (October - December 1941), operations in the Western Desert at El Agheila, Knightsbridge and El Alamein and conditions in Sicily and Italy at Eighth Army HQ, attending staff college at Haifa in Palestine (1943 - 1944), in India at the ALFSEA HQ and in England, 1945 - 1946, as well as interesting references to Lieutenant General Sir Oliver Leese (on whose staff he served as a liaison officer), Field Marshal Montgomery (see March 1943) and Winston Churchill and King George VI, who made official visits to Eighth Army HQ in the summer of 1944; also other papers including a photocopy (6pp) of his brief diary entries for January - October 1944 and correspondence including 5 letters from General Leese and his wife (1942 - 1944) and a biography of his brother,Oliver, later Archbishop of Central Africa.
