Ts transcript (30pp) of a very interesting and evocative account which he wrote in India in April 1944 describing his experiences in Singapore, where he was a senior member of staff in the Mercantile Bank, from December 1941 to February 1942, with useful references to Japanese air raids, the growing sense of despondency among the British community about the outcome of the Malayan campaign and his low opinion of many of the Australian troops in Singapore, his embarkation with a party of Mercantile Bank staff on the TIEN KWANG on 13 February 1942, the ship's arrival off Pom Pong island the following day and his escape ashore when she was bombed by Japanese aircraft, his six increasingly depressing days on Pom Pong with other survivors before continuing his hazardous voyage on sampans and other small boats to Senayang, Singkep and the east coast of Sumatra, and his journey across Sumatra by barge on the Indragiri river to Rengat and then by car to Padang where on 3 March 1942 he and his companions were able to board a small Dutch coaster which sailed to Ceylon.
