Ms diary entries (98pp) written up from notes made by a veteran of the First World War while he was serving as a Quartermaster with the 11th Armoured Division Signals in the United Kingdom, France and North West Europe, June 1944 - June 1945, covering his embarkation for France (10 June 1944) and providing a detailed record of his unit's movements with useful descriptions of the devastation which he witnessed in France, the welcome accorded to Allied troops in Argentan, Amiens, Antwerp, Brussels and elsewhere, the activities of Free French forces (see 1 September), the burning of possessions belonging to collaborators in Belgium, a visit to Breendock concentration camp (see 4 - 9 September), civilian conditions in the Netherlands both before and after their liberation from German occupation, conditions in Germany, including the morale of civilians and released prisoners of war, the plight of refugees, and news of the negotiations for the liberation of Belsen concentration camp.
