Photocopy of a ts memoir (21pp), written in 2000, covering his decision to volunteer for service in the Royal Navy (autumn 1942), his basic training in the shore establishment HMS RALEIGH in Cornwall (January - March 1943) and his radar training on the Isle of Man (March - (?) June 1943), his service as an able seaman radar operator in the newly commissioned MTB 350 while she was working up in the English Channel (summer 1943) and then based on HMS BEEHIVE at Felixstowe as a unit in the 11th MTB Flotilla for duty in the North Sea patrolling the swept channels and attacking enemy coastal convoys (September 1943 - October 1944), MTB 350's subsequent deployment under HMS MANTIS at Lowestoft (October - December 1944) and at Ostend (January - February 1945), the transfer of the ship's company to MTB 500 based on Felixstowe (March - May 1945), their cruise to ports along the south coast of England following the end of the war in Europe (May - August 1945), his appointment to a shore posting and his eventual demobilisation (May 1946). The memoir makes particular reference to the hazards of MTB 350's operations in the North Sea and to the excellent morale of her ship's company.
