Navigator's, Air Bomber's and Air Gunner's flying log book (Form 1767) with entries covering his flights with B Flight, No 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit at RAF Swinderby, Lincolnshire (August 1943), his tour of operations as a Flight Engineer with No 57 Squadron, No 5 Group, RAF Bomber Command, flying Lancaster bombers on raids over Germany and France (September 1943 - August 1944), again with No 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit (August 1944 - September 1945) and finally his flights as an Air Quarter Master with No 24 Squadron, Ferry Command based at RAF Hendon (December 1945 - January 1946) and at RAF Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire (February - October 1946), a period which included flights with No 1359 (VIP) Flight, one of whose most frequent passengers was Field Marshal Montgomery. The log book is accompanied by a photograph showing Montgomery exiting one of No 24 Squadron's Dakotas with Patterson immediately behind him.
