Photocopy of his interesting ms memoir (66pp, written ca 2000) recording his service as the commander of the Reconnaissance Platoon with 66 Column, 6th Battalion Nigeria Regiment (3rd West African Brigade) landing at BROADWAY (Operation THURSDAY) during the Second Chindit Expedition in Northern Burma (March 1944 - August 1944) and moving to ABERDEEN and then BLACKPOOL before advancing north to Lakhren, Padigataung and Hill 60; being evacuated by air with ulcers on his feet and amoebic dysentery to Calcutta and then Poona in India and his eventual recovery; and commenting on the atrocious conditions and climate; the impressive US air support; the evacuation of the wounded by air; being strafed by Japanese aircraft; the consequences of Major General O C Wingate's death and criticism of Major General W D A Lentaigne and the anti-British General 'Vinegar Joe' Stilwell; the replacement of his Colonel by Wingate; patrolling the jungle; food shortages; suffering from tropical diseases and ulcers; the unreliability of the Sten gun; fishing with grenades; the 'miraculous powers' of tea; meeting members of 'V' Force; the heavy casualties; his African troops; going on leave in Kashmir and Gwalior; and mentioning Brigadier H U Richards, the defender of Kohima. Also included are a photocopy of a letter (1p), September 2002, to friends in which he states that his reminiscences were based on notes written in hospital in Poona and some notes (2pp) commenting on his account by J A L Hamilton, author of 'War Bush', a history of African troops in Burma.
