Ms memoir (96pp), transcribed and illustrated by his schoolboy son (complete with spelling mistakes), describing his experiences while serving with the Royal Engineers during the Second World War, initially sailing for Egypt where he refers to relations with local traders, then to Greece where he was wounded and captured by the Germans, spending the rest of the war in captivity, relating his time spent in a prisoner of war camp in Salonika before transport by train to Stalag VIIIB, Lamsdorf, where he refers to the organisation of the camp, living conditions and food, his carpentry work and its use in connection with escape attempts, recreational activities including sports and theatrical productions, relations with the German guards and fellow prisoners, the illicit brewing of alcohol, Allied air raids and the Russian advance which led to the prisoners setting out on a forced march under harsh conditions, his escape attempt that nearly led to his being shot, and liberation by the Americans.
