Ms journal (239pp) covering his service as a bombardier in the 2nd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (1st Armoured Division, but 6th Armoured Division in April - May 1943) in North Africa, April 1942 - August 1943, including descriptions of operations in the Knightsbridge and Sollum Boxes (May - June 1942), the El Alamein offensive (October - November 1942) and the final successful advance through Tunisia to Tunis and the Cap Bon peninsula (March - May 1943). With the journal, which also includes interesting references to the morale of the Allied forces in North Africa and the behaviour of British troops on leave in Cairo, are two bound collections of poems that he wrote during his Army service in England and North Africa between 1940 and 1945, 3 loose poems with ts transcriptions, and a brief ts account (5pp) of his encounters with a young but resourceful Egyptian girl in Cairo in 1942.
