Interesting ts memoirs (27pp) recording his service with the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment in India, Burma and the UK, October 1939 - January 1945, including: service with the Battalion at Peshawar on the North West Frontier, - February 1942; suddenly being mobilised and sent to Burma, February 1942; participating in the Retreat from Burma under the command of 46th Indian Brigade (17th Indian Division), February - May 1942, when he arrived back in India; starting and running as Commandant the 14th Division (later the Eastern Command) Jungle Warfare School at Comilla, ?July 1942 - July 1943; rejoining as Adjutant near Dinapore his battalion which soon joined the Special Force Long Range Penetration Group (LRP) training near Nowgong in Central Provinces, July 1943 - March 1944, before participating in the second Chindit expedition in Central Burma, from March 1944 until he was evacuated with dysentery to India in the summer and finally to the UK in November 1944; he commanded a rifle company of the 8th Battalion DLI retraining RASC as infantry at Keighley, Yorkshire from January 1945; commenting on army life in India; his personal experiences during the Retreat, notably the shock of the news of the fall of Singapore, the crossing of the Sittang River (February 1942), the importance of the support provided by 7th Armoured Brigade, his baptism of fire, the murder of his CO by Burmans, Japanese tactics, and the lessons learnt; and mentioning Field Marshal Lord Slim.
